This mattress combines a 3-inch layer of 100% natural Talalay latex with a core of individually wrapped, fabric-encased coils, creating a responsive and supportive sleep surface. It targets sleepers who prefer medium to medium-firm firmness levels and value organic, breathable components like the organic cotton cover and wool fire barrier. The hybrid construction aims to provide the contouring comfort of latex with the structural support of coils, making it suitable for various sleep positions. Key differentiators include its handcrafted USA construction, GOLS-certified organic latex, and focus on minimizing motion disturbance for couples. The mattress arrives compressed in a box for easier delivery and setup, though some users report sizing discrepancies that warrant attention.

Product Overview

The Eco Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress is constructed with multiple layers designed for durability and comfort. The top layer features 3 inches of 100% natural Talalay latex, which provides responsive contouring and pressure relief. Below this is a core of 896 individually wrapped, fabric-encased coils that offer targeted support and minimize motion transfer. A wool fire barrier adds natural flame resistance without chemical treatments, and the entire mattress is encased in a 100% organic cotton cover for breathability. The mattress measures 11 inches thick and is available in Full size (), though some reviewers note receiving mattresses with width discrepancies, such as 72 inches instead of the advertised 54 inches. It weighs 84 pounds, making it manageable for setup but requiring careful handling. The firmness is rated as medium (approximately 5.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale), with a medium-firm variant available for those preferring more support. Care instructions specify hand washing only, and the mattress is designed for adult use. The hybrid design aims to combine the buoyancy of latex with the edge support of coils, though users should verify dimensions with their bed frames to ensure proper fit.

Design & Build

The Eco Terra Hybrid Latex Mattress features a meticulously crafted five-layer construction designed for both comfort and longevity. The top layer consists of 3 inches of 100% natural Talalay latex, which is GOLS-certified organic and sourced from a single supplier for consistency. This latex layer is buoyant and responsive, contouring to the body without the deep sink of memory foam. Beneath it, a core of 896 individually wrapped, fabric-encased coils provides targeted support and minimizes motion transfer, with reinforced edges to prevent sagging. A wool fire barrier adds natural flame resistance, and the entire mattress is encased in a 100% organic cotton cover that is soft, breathable, and hypoallergenic. The mattress measures 11 inches thick and weighs 84 pounds, making it substantial yet manageable for setup. Handcrafted in the USA, the build emphasizes eco-friendly materials and durable craftsmanship, though some users report sizing issues, such as receiving mattresses narrower than advertised, which may affect fit on standard bed frames.

Aesthetically, the mattress has a clean, natural look with a tufted cotton cover that enhances breathability. The encased coils contribute to edge support, allowing users to sit or sleep near the perimeter without collapse. Maintenance involves hand washing only, as per care instructions, and regular rotation every 6-8 months is recommended by reviewers to ensure even wear, especially for couples with significant weight differences. The mattress arrives compressed in a sturdy box, which eases delivery but requires careful unboxing to avoid damage. Setup is straightforward: place the box on the bed frame, cut it open, and unroll the mattress, which expands quickly with minimal off-gassing. However, the hybrid design may be heavier than all-foam alternatives, and users should verify dimensions upon receipt to ensure compatibility with their bed frames and accessories like sheets and protectors.

Performance

In terms of sleep comfort, the Eco Terra mattress delivers a balanced medium firmness that many reviewers find suitable for various sleep positions. The natural latex layer provides responsive contouring, alleviating pressure points without excessive sinkage, which benefits side sleepers and those with joint pain. The encased coil core offers firm support that maintains spinal alignment, reducing back pain for some users. Motion isolation is a standout feature, with the individually wrapped coils minimizing disturbance from partner movements, making it ideal for couples. Reviewers note that the mattress feels neither too springy nor too squishy, striking a comfortable middle ground. Temperature regulation is enhanced by the breathable latex and cotton materials, which help dissipate heat and reduce night sweats compared to traditional memory foam. However, some users report that the firmness may feel too soft for those preferring very firm surfaces, and the latex layer's responsiveness might not appeal to sleepers who enjoy deep hug.

Durability and long-term performance receive positive feedback from long-term users, with reports of the mattress holding up well over several years without significant sagging or body impressions when rotated regularly. The hybrid construction resists denting and maintains its shape, though heavier individuals (over 300 pounds) should monitor for potential wear. Edge support is robust due to the encased coils, allowing full use of the mattress surface. However, sizing discrepancies noted in reviews—such as receiving a mattress 4 inches narrower than advertised—can impact performance by causing fit issues with bed frames and sheets, leading to discomfort and instability. The mattress generally expands fully within hours, with minimal odor, and performs consistently across different climates. While it excels in motion isolation and support, users should be aware of potential sizing variations and verify measurements upon delivery to ensure optimal performance.

Incorrect mattress size leads to disappointment and return
I have bought many mattresses from Amazon without problems, but this time was different. I ordered a King size mattress directly from Amazon and got it the next day. I also bought a King size bed from another retailer, along with a mattress protector and sheets. The box was strong and handled the 150-pound mattress easily. It took effort to remove the rolled-up mattress, showing it was well-packed. I was pleased as I unrolled it, and after removing the plastic, it expanded into shape. With some effort, I placed it on the bed frame, which brings me to the issue and my low rating. To my disappointment, the mattress was 4 inches narrower than the bed frame. I tried rotating it, but that made it overhang by 2 inches on each side, confirming the initial placement was correct. This turned my satisfaction into anger and a feeling of being cheated. I measured the length, width, and height, and found it was exactly 80x72x11 inches, missing the 4 inches in width compared to the advertised 80x76x11 inches on both the Eco Terra website and Amazon. Four inches might not seem like much, but it causes problems: painful leg bumps on the bed frame rails when getting in and out, loose and baggy sheets and protector on the sides, and inability to sit on the edge. It's unclear why Eco Terra made the mattress narrower, making it unfit for a standard King frame. I found the mattress comfortable otherwise and would have kept it if not for this issue. Fortunately, Amazon handled the return well. Spending a significant amount on a mattress shouldn't involve such risk.
Long-Term Satisfaction with Mattress Purchase
After purchasing this mattress in mid-December, I waited a couple of months to provide a thorough review. Delivery was quick and the mattress arrived in perfect condition. Setting it up was straightforward: the box made moving easier, and after cutting it open, we simply pulled the mattress onto the bed frame. There was minimal odor, and we slept comfortably the first night. We're pleased we invested in this mattress, as we even missed our bed while traveling due to its comfort. As a side sleeper weighing around 325 pounds, I've had no issues, and both my wife and I enjoy restful sleep. The mattress offers balanced support—neither too springy nor too soft—addressing my concerns about memory foam. We rotate it every 5-6 months to ensure even wear, given our size difference. To prevent sliding, we use a Safavieh Rug Pad from Bed Bath & Beyond, which works well with our Zinus 14 Inch SmartBase Mattress Foundation from Amazon. Over years of updates (from 2017 to 2025), the mattress has maintained its quality without sagging or dents, and we continue to recommend it. Investing in a good mattress is crucial since we spend a third of our lives in bed.
