KMFurnila Memory Foam Mattress, Single Tri-Fold Mattress with Collapsible Review

The KMFurnila Tri-Fold Memory Foam Mattress is a portable sleeping solution designed for temporary use in homes, during travel, or for camping. This 3-inch thick mattress offers a practical alternative to traditional guest beds or air mattresses, with its foldable design allowing for easy storage and transport. It targets individuals needing extra sleeping space for visitors, those in small apartments with limited room for permanent beds, or outdoor enthusiasts seeking comfortable ground sleeping. The mattress combines memory foam comfort with practical features like a removable, washable cover and non-slip bottom fabric. Its tri-fold mechanism enables quick setup and breakdown, making it suitable for spontaneous guest arrivals or mobile sleeping arrangements. While not intended as a primary bed, it provides adequate support for occasional use, with a firm feel that some users find ideal for back support. The product addresses common pain points of bulky spare beds and uncomfortable air mattresses by offering a compact, ready-to-use foam option.

Product Overview

The KMFurnila mattress measures 75 inches in length, 25 inches in width, and 3 inches in thickness, fitting a standard single/small twin sleeping area. It weighs approximately 7.19 pounds, contributing to its portability. The mattress is constructed with CertiPUR-US certified memory foam, which is designed to minimize motion transfer and provide pressure relief. A removable, zippered cover made from skin-friendly, breathable fabric encases the foam, and this cover is machine washable for easy maintenance. The bottom of the cover features non-slip fabric to prevent shifting during use. The tri-fold design allows the mattress to be folded into a more compact size for storage in closets, car trunks, or under beds. KMFurnila offers this mattress in two thickness options: the 3-inch version reviewed here provides firm support, while a 4-inch variant offers enhanced cushioning. Users report the mattress is straightforward to set up, simply unfolding it and allowing the foam to expand. It is marketed for use as a guest bed, floor mattress for sleepovers, camping bed, or temporary bedding in small apartments. Some reviewers note the 3-inch thickness may feel too firm for those with joint issues, suggesting the 4-inch option for added comfort. The product does not include a pump or require inflation, distinguishing it from air mattresses.

Design & Build

The KMFurnila Tri-Fold Mattress features a straightforward design centered on portability and ease of use. Its construction begins with a core of CertiPUR-US certified memory foam, which is 3 inches thick in this variant. This foam is designed to be breathable, reducing heat retention common in some memory foams, and it offers a firm support profile. The foam is encased in a removable cover made from a soft, breathable fabric that is skin-friendly and includes a zipper along one side for easy removal. The bottom of the cover incorporates a non-slip fabric that helps prevent the mattress from sliding on smooth floors like hardwood or tile, enhancing safety during sleep. The tri-fold mechanism divides the mattress into three equal sections, allowing it to be folded neatly into a more compact rectangle. This design does not include any internal hinges or hard parts, relying solely on the foam's flexibility, which reviewers find durable through repeated folding. The overall build emphasizes lightweight materials, with the mattress weighing just over 7 pounds, making it manageable for most adults to carry. Aesthetics are minimal, with the cover typically in a neutral color like gray or beige, blending into various room decors. The lack of complex components like pumps or electronics simplifies maintenance and reduces potential failure points.

Cleaning and maintenance are designed for convenience. The removable cover can be unzipped and washed in a standard washing machine, allowing users to keep the sleeping surface fresh between uses. The memory foam core should not be submerged in water but can be spot-cleaned with mild detergent if necessary and aired out to prevent odors. The foldable design aids in storage; when not in use, the mattress can be folded and placed in a closet, under a bed, or in a car trunk without taking up excessive space. Some users note that the foam may take a short time to fully expand after unfolding, but it generally regains its shape quickly. The materials are chosen for durability, with the foam resisting permanent creasing from folding, though long-term compression in storage might slightly affect loft over time. The zipper is reported to be sturdy, though care is advised during removal and reattachment to avoid snagging. The non-slip bottom performs well on most surfaces, though on very slick floors, occasional shifting might occur. Overall, the design prioritizes functionality over luxury, providing a reliable, easy-to-manage sleeping solution for temporary needs.

Performance

In terms of comfort and support, the 3-inch KMFurnila mattress delivers a firm sleeping surface that many users find adequate for occasional use. The memory foam contours to the body, providing pressure relief at key points like hips and shoulders, which reviewers appreciate for reducing discomfort during sleep. However, some users, particularly those with joint issues or preferring a plusher feel, note that the 3-inch thickness can feel too firm, leading them to recommend the 4-inch version for enhanced cushioning. Motion isolation is effective; the foam absorbs movement, making it suitable for light sleepers or when used by children who may toss and turn. The breathable cover and foam composition help regulate temperature, preventing excessive heat buildup, though it may not be as cool as specialized cooling mattresses. For guest use, the mattress performs well, offering a comfortable alternative to air mattresses that can deflate or feel unstable. Users report it provides better support than thin sleeping pads, making it viable for short-term sleeping arrangements. The non-slip bottom generally keeps the mattress in place on floors, though on very smooth surfaces, slight shifting might occur during vigorous movement. Setup is quick, with the foam expanding to full size within minutes after unfolding, requiring no inflation or assembly time.

Durability and portability are strong points. The mattress holds up well to repeated folding and unfolding, with no significant signs of wear in the foam or cover in short-term use, though long-term resilience over years is less documented. It is lightweight enough for easy transport, making it practical for camping or travel, though its size when folded may still require some trunk space. Insulation from the ground is moderate; the 3-inch foam provides some barrier against cold floors, but for very cold environments, additional padding might be needed. Condensation or sweat is minimal due to the breathable materials, and the washable cover allows for easy cleaning if spills occur. Some reviewers mention that the mattress can feel stiff initially, possibly softening slightly with use, but it maintains its supportive structure. Compared to air mattresses, it avoids issues like leaks or pump failures, offering a more reliable temporary bed. However, it is not waterproof, so care is needed in damp conditions. The tri-fold design ensures compact storage, but users should avoid compressing it excessively for prolonged periods to maintain foam integrity. Overall, performance meets expectations for a portable, occasional-use mattress, balancing comfort, convenience, and practicality.

Excellent for added comfort on a foldable bed
Impressive and Substantial Air Mattress
We have previously used several air mattresses, including high-quality queen-sized ones. Even the most advanced model we've tried was only about two-thirds as tall as this one. Initial inflation takes approximately 5 to 6 minutes. The instruction manual advises waiting 2 to 3 hours after the first inflation for the mattress to settle slightly, then performing a final inflation to fully stretch the PVC material. It was reassuring to note that the pump is ETL safety tested, which is not as common as it should be for many Amazon products that connect to a 120 VAC wall outlet. The storage pocket for the cable and plug is quite snug, requiring careful winding and placement to fit everything back in. In the photo, a 1-liter seltzer bottle is shown in front of the mattress to provide a size comparison, highlighting its substantial thickness. The instructions are clear, and the included canvas storage and carrying tote is very useful, as it is impossible to neatly fold the mattress back into its original cardboard box. This mattress will be extremely helpful when hosting guests that exceed our home's bedroom capacity.
Extra padding is essential for older individuals!
In short, that additional inch really matters! This product is perfectly fine, but I regret not choosing the 4-inch thickness. As a 52-year-old with sensitive hips, I had a positive experience sleeping on a friend's 4-inch mattress on the floor. However, when purchasing my own, I opted for the 3-inch version to save money, which I now realize was a poor decision. On the other hand, my high school-aged son has used it and found it suitable for his needs.
