Signature Sleep Dream On 8 Inch Flippable Pocket Mattress Full Size - Review

The Signature Sleep Dream On is a full-size pocket coil mattress designed for budget-conscious shoppers seeking a basic, durable sleeping surface. This 8-inch mattress features a flippable design that extends its lifespan by allowing even wear on both sides. With 651 individually wrapped coils, it aims to provide dynamic pressure relief and support. The mattress is Greenguard Gold certified, indicating low chemical emissions, and comes compressed in a box for easy delivery. It targets adults and older children who need a straightforward, medium-firm bed for guest rooms, kids' rooms, or temporary use. Reviewers note its lack of off-gassing odor and affordable price as key selling points.

Product Overview

This mattress measures 74 inches long by 53 inches wide by 8 inches thick, with a net weight of 66 pounds. It ships compressed in a carton measuring 56.5 by 12 by 12 inches, weighing 72.5 pounds gross. The construction includes four layers, with 651 pocketed coils as the core support system. The cover is a quilted polyester that cannot be removed for washing, requiring spot cleaning only. The flippable design promotes even wear, potentially extending the mattress life. It is made in Canada from recycled polyester fibers and contains no added flame retardants. While marketed for adults, many reviewers find it best suited for children or lightweight individuals due to its softer-than-expected feel. The medium firmness may not provide adequate support for heavier adults or those with back issues. The mattress comes with a 10-year limited warranty.

Design & Build

The Dream On mattress features a straightforward four-layer construction centered around 651 pocketed coils. These individually wrapped springs work independently to contour to body shape while minimizing motion transfer. The coil system is surrounded by padding layers, though some reviewers note the padding feels thin, particularly around the edges. The quilted polyester cover provides a soft sleeping surface but cannot be removed for washing, requiring careful spot cleaning only. The flippable design allows users to rotate the mattress periodically, potentially extending its lifespan by distributing wear evenly across both surfaces. The mattress ships compressed in a box, expanding to its full 8-inch height within hours of unboxing. The white color and simple design make it compatible with most bedroom decor.

Build quality receives mixed feedback from reviewers. Some praise the durable construction and lack of chemical smell upon unboxing, attributing this to the Greenguard Gold certification and North American manufacturing. Others report issues with edge support, noting the corners and sides feel less solid than the center. The cover material is soft but some users mention it tends to bunch up under sheets, particularly when used with bunk bed guard rails or tight-fitting sheets. The mattress weighs 66 pounds, making it manageable for one person to position with some effort. The 8-inch profile is relatively low compared to many modern mattresses, which may require consideration when pairing with existing bed frames or foundations.

Performance

Support and comfort performance varies significantly by user weight and sleeping position. Many reviewers describe the mattress as softer than expected despite its medium-firm rating, with some adults finding the coils feel 'squishy' under their weight. Children and lightweight individuals generally report adequate comfort, with several parents noting their kids sleep better on this mattress than previous options. The pocketed coils provide some pressure relief but may not offer sufficient support for heavier sleepers or those with back pain concerns. Edge support is a common weakness, with multiple reviewers noting the perimeter feels less supportive than the center. The flippable design helps maintain performance over time by allowing rotation to prevent sagging in specific areas.

Durability reports are mixed. Some users report the mattress holding up well for years, particularly when used by children or in guest rooms. Others mention premature wear, with one reviewer reporting the mattress split in half within six months of regular use. The lack of foam layers may contribute to longer-lasting support compared to all-foam mattresses that can develop permanent body impressions. Temperature regulation benefits from the coil construction, which allows more airflow than dense foam. Most reviewers confirm the absence of chemical odor upon unboxing, validating the Greenguard Gold certification claims. The mattress works best on solid foundations or bunkie boards rather than flexible slat systems that might not provide adequate support for the coil system.

Budget-Friendly and Safe Mattress Choice
We spontaneously upgraded our toddlers from toddler beds to a bunk bed and needed mattresses quickly. While I prefer natural products, organic options were too expensive, so I aimed for each mattress under $200. I considered the Signature Sleep Dream On mattress, the 6” Nod by Tuft & Needle, and Ikea. I ruled out Ikea due to safety concerns about their foam. For the Nod mattress, I found mixed information on foam safety, contacted customer service, and was told there was no fiberglass, but this info wasn't updated on their website or Amazon Q&A, and it still hasn't been. In contrast, Signature Sleep's customer service responded promptly to all my questions about the Dream On mattress. I decided to buy two based on: 1) good customer service, 2) availability in stock, 3) made in North America (Canada), 4) Greenguard Gold certified, 5) no flame retardants, 6) individually encased coils to prevent EMF conductivity, and 7) no foam. Shipping was fast, packaging was good, and the mattresses inflated quickly. I immediately noticed no smell—no chemicals or odors—which reassured me I made the right choice for my kids. We invested in organic covers, sheets, and pillows for direct contact, but it's comforting to know the mattresses won't off-gas. Downsides: The mattresses are less firm than expected; as an adult, I find the coils a bit squishy, but they're still comfortable. My toddlers don't notice the coils and sleep better and longer than on their crib mattresses. Another minor issue is the thin polyester padding under the soft cover tends to bunch up, making it hard to adjust, likely due to the bunk bed setup with guard rails, which should improve as they grow. Despite these cons, I'm very pleased with the mattresses and would buy more. The lack of odor was impressive, confirming the Greenguard certification is legitimate.
Product broke within six months
The item split in half less than six months after I started using it.
Safe and Cozy Mattress for Children
I purchased two of these mattresses for my children. They are very comfortable for kids, and I appreciate that they are Greengard certified. They would be suitable for adults in a guest bed but not as a primary mattress for nightly use.
