Purple Restore Mattress – Split GelFlex Grid, Better Than Memory Foam Review
The Purple Restore Mattress (Firm) is a premium hybrid mattress designed for sleepers seeking a balance of support and pressure relief. It combines Purple's proprietary GelFlex Grid technology with responsive coil support to create a sleep surface that adapts to body contours while maintaining edge-to-edge stability. The mattress targets those who prefer a firmer feel without sacrificing comfort, particularly individuals with back pain or those who work physically demanding jobs. Its temperature-neutral properties aim to prevent overheating during sleep. Reviewers consistently praise its comfort and durability, noting it provides excellent support even after months of use. The split king configuration offers flexibility for couples with different sleep preferences. While the initial firmness may require a brief adjustment period, users report it softens slightly over time to an ideal comfort level. The mattress is constructed in the USA and comes with a focus on breathability and responsiveness.
Product Overview
The Purple Restore Mattress (Firm) is available in a split king size measuring 80 inches long by 76 inches wide by 11.5 inches thick. It weighs 114 pounds, making it substantial and requiring careful handling during setup. The mattress features a hybrid construction with 2 inches of GelFlex Grid on top for immediate pressure relief and responsiveness. Below this, an edge-to-edge coil support system provides foundational stability and prevents sagging. An edge support system enhances durability and maintains the mattress's shape over time. The firm version is designed for sleepers who need more support, while a soft variant is also available for those preferring a plusher feel. Materials focus on breathability to promote temperature neutrality throughout the night. The GelFlex Grid flexes under pressure points like hips and shoulders but springs back quickly when weight shifts. This design aims to reduce motion transfer and improve sleep quality. Care involves spot cleaning for minor spills, with reviewers noting effective stain removal even from pet accidents. The mattress ships compressed in a box, requiring unboxing on the bed frame. Due to its weight, assistance is recommended during setup to avoid injury. It suits adult sleepers and integrates well with standard split king bed frames.

Design & Build
The Purple Restore Mattress (Firm) features a layered hybrid design focused on durability and comfort. The top layer consists of 2 inches of GelFlex Grid, a proprietary material that flexes under pressure points to cradle the body while quickly rebounding. This grid structure enhances breathability, allowing air to circulate and reduce heat buildup. Beneath this, a responsive coil support system provides edge-to-edge stability, with individually wrapped coils that minimize motion transfer. An edge support system reinforces the perimeter, preventing sagging and improving usability for sitting or sleeping near the edges. The mattress measures 80 x 76 x 11.5 inches and weighs 114 pounds, making it robust but heavy to maneuver. Aesthetics include a simple, modern cover that is removable for spot cleaning, though deep cleaning is not recommended. The split king size allows for flexibility in bedding and adjustable base compatibility. Setup requires unboxing on the bed frame, with caution advised due to the weight; reviewers suggest having help to avoid injury. The materials are designed for long-term use, with users reporting no significant wear after several months.
Maintenance is straightforward, focusing on spot cleaning for spills. Reviewers note that accidents, such as pet messes, can be cleaned without leaving stains or odors, indicating good stain resistance. The GelFlex Grid and coil layers are encased in durable fabrics that resist compression and maintain shape over time. The firm version offers a supportive feel that may initially seem stiff but softens slightly during the break-in period. Edge support enhances the sleepable surface area, making the mattress feel larger and more stable. The design prioritizes breathability, with open structures in the GelFlex Grid and coil system promoting airflow. This helps regulate temperature throughout the night, appealing to hot sleepers. The mattress is constructed in the USA, reflecting attention to manufacturing quality. While heavy, it ships compressed in a box for easier delivery, though unpacking requires care to avoid damage. Overall, the build balances adaptive comfort with sturdy support, aiming for longevity and consistent performance.
Performance
The Purple Restore Mattress (Firm) delivers strong performance in support and pressure relief. The GelFlex Grid immediately conforms to body contours, reducing pressure on hips and shoulders while maintaining responsiveness. Reviewers report excellent support for back pain, with many noting improved sleep quality even after physically demanding days. The firm feel provides a stable surface that prevents sinking, ideal for back and stomach sleepers. Over the first few weeks, the mattress softens slightly—about 5% according to one user—reaching an optimal comfort level without losing support. Temperature neutrality is a highlight, with breathable materials preventing overheating; users describe sleeping cool throughout the night. Motion isolation is effective due to the coil system, minimizing disturbances from partner movement. Edge support performs well, allowing use of the full mattress surface without roll-off. Durability appears robust, with no sagging or wear reported after months of use. The mattress handles weight evenly, supporting various body types without bottoming out. However, the initial firmness may be too stiff for some, requiring a short adjustment period. Overall, it excels in providing balanced comfort and support for restorative sleep.
In real-world use, the mattress maintains its shape and support over time. Reviewers praise its ability to alleviate aches, with one noting it offers the best sleep of their life nightly. The GelFlex Grid's quick rebound ensures the surface stays supportive as sleepers shift positions. Condensation or sweat is minimal thanks to the breathable design. Drop or dent resilience is high, with the heavy construction resisting deformation. Trade-offs include the weight, making setup challenging without assistance, and the premium price point. Some users mention the firmness is perfect for support but might not suit those preferring a plush feel. The split king configuration performs well for couples, allowing individualized comfort without compromise. Spot cleaning effectiveness is confirmed by users who successfully removed stains without residue. While most reviews are positive, a few note the need for careful unpacking to avoid issues. Performance consistency across the sleep surface is strong, with no dead spots or uneven support reported. This mattress targets sleepers seeking a durable, supportive, and temperature-regulated option, delivering on its promises in daily use.
