ZINUS 6 Inch Green Tea Cooling Gel Memory Foam Mattress / Cooling Gel Review

The ZINUS Green Tea Cooling Gel Memory Foam Mattress is a 6-inch all-foam mattress designed to provide a cooler, more comfortable sleep experience. It targets sleepers who want pressure relief without excessive heat retention, particularly back sleepers and average-weight individuals. The mattress combines cooling gel and green tea extracts within its memory foam layer to help regulate temperature throughout the night. Its bed-in-a-box delivery makes it easy to transport and set up in any room. With CertiPUR-US certification, it meets standards for durability, performance, and content. The mattress is especially popular for RVs, campers, and guest rooms where space and comfort are priorities. Reviewers frequently praise its firm yet comfortable feel and effective cooling properties. The 10-year limited warranty provides long-term assurance. This model offers a balance of support and cooling technology at an accessible price point.

Product Overview

The ZINUS Green Tea Cooling Gel Memory Foam Mattress features a three-layer foam construction. The top layer consists of 1 inch of gel and green tea-infused memory foam designed for cooling and pressure relief. Below that is 1 inch of soft comfort foam for additional cushioning. The base comprises 4 inches of high-density support foam for durability and stability. This 6-inch total height makes it suitable for platforms, RV beds, and low-profile frames. The mattress arrives compressed in a box for easy shipping and handling. After unboxing, it requires 24 to 72 hours to fully expand to its original shape. Expansion time can vary with room temperature, with warmer environments speeding up the process. The cover is not removable and should not be removed due to fiberglass content in the fire barrier. Many users add a separate mattress protector for easier cleaning. The Short Queen size measures 74 inches long by 60 inches wide, making it ideal for RV and camper applications where standard queen mattresses might not fit. Weight capacity varies by size, with twin supporting up to 250 pounds and larger sizes handling up to 500 pounds. The firm feel provides adequate support for back sleepers while preventing excessive sinkage. Its relatively thin profile makes it easy to move and position in tight spaces.

Design & Build

The ZINUS mattress features a straightforward three-layer foam design optimized for cooling and support. The top layer combines memory foam with cooling gel beads and green tea extract, aiming to address heat retention issues common in traditional memory foam. This 1-inch layer provides initial pressure relief and conforms to body shapes. Beneath it, a 1-inch layer of soft comfort foam adds cushioning without compromising support. The 4-inch high-density base foam forms the foundation, ensuring durability and preventing bottoming out. The total 6-inch height creates a low-profile mattress suitable for platform beds, RV installations, and spaces with height restrictions. The cover is a knit fabric that should not be removed due to fiberglass fire barrier components. Many users add a separate waterproof protector for easier maintenance. The mattress arrives compressed in a box, making transportation and setup manageable for one person. After unboxing, it requires 24 to 72 hours to fully expand, with expansion speed influenced by room temperature. The firm feel caters to back sleepers and those preferring more support. Its simple construction lacks advanced zoning or edge support features, focusing instead on reliable basic performance.

Build quality emphasizes durability through high-density foams and CertiPUR-US certification. The foam layers are bonded together to prevent shifting or separation over time. The cover is non-removable, so spot cleaning is recommended for stains. The fiberglass fire barrier requires careful handling; removing the cover can release glass particles. Many reviewers mention using an additional mattress encasement for protection and easier cleaning. The bed-in-a-box packaging efficiently compresses the mattress for shipping, reducing damage risks during transit. Once expanded, the mattress maintains its shape well, with minimal initial off-gassing reported by most users. The firm edge support is adequate for sitting but not designed for prolonged perimeter use. The low profile makes it easy to move and position, though some users note the 6-inch thickness might feel too thin without a foundation. The simple aesthetic with subtle green tea branding fits most bedroom decors. Overall, the design prioritizes practical functionality over luxury features, making it a solid choice for budget-conscious buyers and specific applications like RVs.

Performance

The mattress delivers reliable cooling performance thanks to its gel-infused memory foam layer. Many reviewers confirm it sleeps cooler than traditional memory foam mattresses, reducing night sweats and overheating. The green tea infusion adds a fresh scent that dissipates quickly after unboxing. Pressure relief is effective for back sleepers and average-weight individuals, with the memory foam contouring to alleviate hip and shoulder pressure. The firm feel provides adequate support without excessive sinkage, though some lighter sleepers might find it too firm. Motion isolation is excellent due to the all-foam construction, making it suitable for couples. Edge support is limited given the 6-inch height, so sitting on the perimeter might cause compression. The mattress maintains its shape well over time, with minimal sagging reported in reviews. Off-gassing is minimal for most users, especially when allowed to air out in a well-ventilated room. The cooling effect works consistently in various climates, including warmer regions like Florida. The thin profile means some users might feel the bed base beneath, particularly if using a slatted foundation without adequate support. Overall, it performs well for its intended use cases, offering a balance of cooling, support, and durability.

Real-world temperature regulation receives positive feedback from multiple reviewers. The gel infusion effectively dissipates body heat, preventing the trapped warmth common in standard memory foam. Many users report sleeping comfortably through the night without overheating. The firm support layer prevents bottoming out, though heavier individuals might desire more cushioning. The mattress works best on solid platforms or bunkie boards; flexible slats could reduce support. Condensation and moisture buildup are minimal due to the breathable cover and cooling materials. Drop and dent resilience is good, with the high-density base foam resisting permanent impressions. The lightweight design makes it easy to rotate or move for cleaning. Some reviewers note the 6-inch thickness feels sufficient for occasional use but might benefit from a topper for extended sleeping. The bed-in-a-box expansion is reliable, with most mattresses reaching full size within the promised timeframe. Noise levels are virtually nonexistent, enhancing undisturbed sleep. The mattress fits standard short queen sheets without issue. While not as plush as thicker models, it provides consistent performance for RV, guest room, and budget bedroom applications. Trade-offs include limited edge support and a firmer feel that might not suit all sleep preferences.

Ideal for RV use, exceptionally comfortable
I bought a 6-inch mattress to replace my 8-inch spring/foam one, which was too firm and uncomfortable. I initially worried that 6 inches might not be sufficient, but that wasn't an issue. This mattress was perfect in every aspectβ€”extremely comfortable and a perfect fit. I'm very satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend it to others.
Great Firm Mattress with No Odor Issues
We placed this mattress in our camper and allowed it to air out for about five days. Upon returning, we noticed no unpleasant smell, which others have reported. Keeping the air circulation low might have helped, but we detected no odor. After adding a cover and sheets, we slept soundly. The mattress is firm yet very comfortable. Regarding fiberglass concerns, the mattress clearly states not to remove the cover. We don't understand why people ignore such instructions and then complain. To address cleaning needs, we purchased an additional cover for easy removal and washing. If you follow directions, fiberglass should not be a problem.
Satisfactory RV Mattress for Occasional Camping
My Jayco trailer originally had an uncomfortable innerspring mattress, which I improved slightly with an egg foam pad and cover. After discarding the pad due to cleaning difficulties, I temporarily used my home mattress in the trailer, but it was too large and inconvenient. I then purchased this 6-inch foam RV mattress. It took longer to fully expand than my home mattress, with one corner remaining flat after two days. Despite being thin and allowing me to feel the plywood base, it provides much better sleep than the original mattress, which I discarded. This mattress is suitable for weekend camping trips of 2-3 nights. For longer stays, like a summer, I would add a foam topper for extra cushioning, and for full-time use, I might opt for a higher-end option. Overall, it offers good comfort for the price, making it a worthwhile investment for occasional campers.
